Hi, I'm Leo and I'm going to give you a book review today. This time I read "When the Inkeeper Met the Vampire" by Lila Appleton. This is book five of the Leaf Shire Cove Monster series. And if you're like, "Hey, what happened to book four?" Yeah, I read that a long time ago when I read the ARC for it, so I'm not going to do a review on that one, but it's worth reading.
That said, "When the Innkeeper Met the Vampire" is probably my favorite of the Leafshire Cove Monsters series because it is about Colette and Archer, who are authors, and I am also an author so I really enjoyed it. It also has one of the best meet cutes of the series with an accidental kiss and in the middle of a book fair, no less, with a pile of cookies that showered down around them. It was absolutely adorable.
One of the things I also really appreciated about this book was that Archer the vampire is in a sticky situation, but rather than continuing to hide that, (he does take some time to reach this decision) but rather than continuing to hide this sticky situation from Colette, the innkeeper who he's in love with, he does come out and tell her, "Hey, this is what's going on. I want to give you the choice on if you want to deal with this or not." He doesn't do the self-sacrifice trope and say, "Oh, I can't do this because of this reason," without ever actually telling the woman why he can't do it. I did enjoy that a lot about this book is very cute.
On the co-writing of the short story and their different writing styles, Appleton definitely gave the two extremes of authors between these two. Most authors I know are somewhere in the middle, not quite as extreme on either side of these, but it was really cute to read. It was a fun read. There was definitely good smut. I enjoyed that thoroughly. I don't know if she's planning on a book six, but I hope so because I could definitely I kind of want to see the gossip queen, Batilda, get her lover. I don't know who the next one in the series is, though. Hopefully she does come out with a book six, but I will keep you updated.
